The first summer, in their words

The inaugural season

Chroma's first summer ran from 9 to 19 July 2026 at the Bartók Béla Music Institute in Miskolc. Students worked with the piano and composition faculty in individual lessons, masterclasses and seminars, performed in the festival's concert series, and gave a public open-air concert in the centre of Miskolc. Composers heard their scores played by the festival's performing artists.

What follows is who was there, and what it looked like.

"My favorite part of the festival has been the piano masterclasses. It is very informative to see the art of interpretation played out in front of you. To see great pianists interpret great works really helps me know how better to write for the piano."

"My favorite part of the festival has been the student recitals and the composition forum. They are both opportunities where I get to see other people's works, their compositions, and playing things they have been working on for months and months. It is so great to be inspired by what other people are doing."

"We have a lot of masterclasses, lectures and individual lessons, and we are also doing duo-piano work. So we get to work with and collaborate with a lot of people, and we get a lot of perspectives from each other."

"The lectures we have here are very career-oriented, by people that have just gotten into this career. It is very interesting for us, being at school and seeing the next level of this journey."
